  • Can a blog actually still be profitable in 2021?

  • Beginner bloggers. If you are thinking about starting a blog then these questions have likely crossed your mind.
  • Unsuccessful bloggers. If you have been blogging for sometime but nothing fruitful seems to be coming out from your hard work.

By The Way, What Is Blogging?

Blogging refers to writing content, photography, and publishing other media online. In the past,  blogging involved individuals writing diary-style entries.

However, it has been incorporated into websites for businesses.

In this post, I’ll share with you the status quo of blogging and that will address your questions and concerns regarding blogging.

Types Of Blogs

  • Personal blog
  • Business blog
  • Niche blog
  • Affiliate blog

Is Blogging Really Dead?

Far from it, blogging is still alive. It’s not dead yet. However, there are some tendencies of blogging that are dead.

So does the future look break for those who wish to start blogging? Far from the truth, the future for blogging is still bright.

All you need to do is get to know the tendencies of blogging that are no more so that you can avoid them.

So to succeed, treat your blog like a business. Just like every successful business has to adapt to changes, your blogging business has to as well.

Thus you need to change with the times and keep updating to date with what is effective for your blog to be profitable.

Emphasis: If you want to start a blog that makes money, first do your analysis to establish what works and what does not work.

Tendencies Of Blogging That Are Dead

1. Personal Blogging Is Dead

A decade ago, starting successful personal blogs was very easy. Most celebrities were able to grow a large following base easily and faster.

This is, however, not the norm today.

So why have personal blogs died ? Do you know the reason why this is the case?

… because of Social Media.

There are so many social media platforms. So celebrities have taken advantage of these platforms to entertain their audiences.

The growth of social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube has culminated in the death of personal blogs.

Influencers have social media handles for getting in touch with their audiences because they don’t cost a dime and are easier to use.

So creating a blog about yourself won’t and musings won’t bring traffic to your website and generate any income.

But you can have a personal blog for your own enjoyment if making money is your primary reason for starting a personal blog.

2. General Blogging Is Dead

Some niches are much more profitable than others. Thus, if you want to start a personal blog for fun, writing about your life or interests then you won’t make money.

But if you want a blog to bring traffic and generate income, you should focus on a niche that has a chance to succeed.

Otherwise, your blog will fail, no matter how hard you try to create useful content and distribute it to engage a broader audience.

How to know if you choose the right topic for a blog? Do the research and answer the following questions:

  • Are you knowledgeable enough about the topic?
  • When you search for this topic in Google, are there any ads about it?
  • Are there existing blogs on this topic with more than  on Facebook and Twitter?
  • When you check this topic’s related words and phrases in keyword planner tools, do any of them have searches?
  • Do Google trends show rising or downward interest in the topic?

People are no longer searching for funny information. Instead, they need content that will solve their problems.

People want to be educated on a specific topic. Your blog should be a reservoir of information for your audience.

So general blogs are now outdated. Don’t start a personal blog if your primary goal is to make money.

3. Blogging That Focuses On Quantity Only Is Dead

In the early years of blogging, there was a lot less competition.  The more you posted, the more traffic and visibility you received.

This is, however, no longer the case.

Today, writing top notch content consistently is better than churning out more frequent content of lesser help.

In short, focus on long form content that provides long-term value. So provide top notch instead of being concerned about your word count.

But after the content is created, update it regularly to keep it up to date and relevant for your audience and search engines.

Your posts should be at least around 1,500 words long, but also you need the post to have salient elements in it, for example:

  • Flow. A post should start with a question, lead through reasoning and end with a conclusion.
  • Uniqueness. A post should have something special about it that differentiates it from the competition.
  • Formatting. A post should include the following formatting: bolding, subheadings, and lists.
  • Value. Your post should be able to solve someone’s problem.

All of these are elements of quality. So take all of this into account.

4. Content Devoid Of Video And Audio Is Dead

Websites were built around text; animation and color were provided by images, and audio was the limit of interactivity.

Today, almost everything can be incorporated into a blog. Videos can be placed and edited to suit, images can be tailored and resized to fit almost any post on any screen.

Although there are rules surrounding this enhanced content. Ignoring these rules would lead to difficult, and frustrating blog posts.

There are some people that still read blog posts though more and more people are preferring to learn through video and audio.

So if you are not preparing videos and audios for your audience, then your competition will capitalize on this weakness to outrank you.

You can record your video or audio first and then transcribe it into a blog post or use a service like Rev.com to do it for you.

How To Incorporate Videos Efficiently

Pair the short with the long:  quick videos with long text, and long videos with short text summaries.

Then your text-and-video posts can end up engaging your audience beyond the initial glance and quick read.

How To Incorporate Audios Efficiently

When combining a podcast with your text-based blog, it is essential that you keep the same rule of balance in mind.

Mix long-form audio with relatively brief text. Tell your audience what you are doing in text and explain how it is done through your audio.

This can help you engage audiences during and after your podcast, through a combination of blog-based notes and engaging audio content.

5. Blogging Without Freebies On A Site Is Dead

How can you get people to sign up to your email list?

You need to offer an incentive for them to stay connected with you. You will need to have an attractive offer for them to hand over to you.

The best way to do this is by providing an enticing freebie of some type that will give them a quick win in exchange for their email address.

Freebies create a positive impact for your brand. It goes without saying that people love getting things for free.

So there are few ways more popular than giving out a good old freebie to satisfy a new client. Freebies add value to the interaction and give your customers positive feelings about your brand.

These are feelings that they are likely to share with others, creating a positive buzz about your business. They encourage customers to try other products that you offer.

By offering free samples of your products, you allow your clients the opportunity to “test the waters” of your company.

If they are pleased with the freebies you have offered them, they will be more inclined to look into the other products that you have available.

Offering something for free will help to diminish the hesitation people have with giving your brand a try. They significantly improve customer relationships.

There is likely to be a time when a customer becomes upset at a particular situation that has arisen during your relationship.

Of course, this is where an excellent customer service regimen will come in handy. Offering your clients something for free as part of the resolution process can go a long way. They make your brand look good.

Giving out free samples of your products is bound to make people’s days. When your customers are made to feel special, they will think very highly of your brand.

Getting something for nothing is always a guaranteed method of pleasing a customer. Freebies make your brand stand out from its competitors.

They encourage buying habits. If you are confident in the products that you offer then offering one for free is the best commercial for your business you can put out there.

If a customer is pleased with the product, there is a high probability that he or she will be interested in purchasing your other products in the future.

Making your current customers happy is a great way to secure loyal customers for the long haul.

If you do not have an email service provider set up to collect email addresses, I highly recommend Mailerlite.

I think it’s the best email marketing provider. It’s the one I use and love. It offers beginners a free plan
