How to get local followers on Instagram

Do you want to learn how to get local followers on Instagram? Is it easy?

Instagram is a great platform. With it, you can do a number of things. Instagram can enable you to connect with your audience, sell your products and grow your brand.

If you have a local business, building a following that is located all over the world won’t necessarily help your business.

In this article, I’m going to talk about free strategies that you can use to grow a local following on Instagram.

Let’s get started.

What Is Instagram Marketing?

Instagram marketing is the way businesses connect with and engage with their target audiences using pictures and videos.

Instagram is a great tool for brands that shows users their corporate cultures to market products and services in a new and exciting way.

This often attracts new customers and potential talent while building brand loyalty and establishing brand identity.

How to Create An Instagram Business Account

Creating a business Instagram account may be one of the easiest things about learning how to market with the social media app.

Here is how you can set up a business account to provide people with more information about your products and services.

1. Download the Instagram App.

Go to the app store on your device and download the Instagram app. Once the app is downloaded on your device, tap the app to open it.

2. Create An Account And Username.

Click “sign up” to create an account and enter your business email address. If you already have a business or personal Facebook account that you would like to connect to, you can tap sign up with a Facebook account.

You’ll need to create a username for Instagram that has something to do with your business name, location, or brand. In most cases, companies tend to use their official company name as their username.

If your company has multiple locations, collections, or sub-brands, you can create a unique account for each and expand on your company name to create a specific Instagram handle.

3. Switch to a Business Account.

Once you have your account set up, you need to go to settings to change your Instagram into a business account. Once you are in settings, scroll down until you find the Switch to Professional Account selection.

4. Add Your Business Contact Information.

After you switch to a business account, you can add in business information such as your email, phone number, location, business category, and store hours.

You can also add in a creative bio with a tagline or other pertinent information.

Instagram can be a highly targetable, visual marketing channel for your brand and an opportunity to build a loyal audience that grows with your business.

In fact, over 500 million Instagram users browse the app every day, making it home to some of the most engaged audiences around.

  • Local followers can increase your sales because of the shorter distance and faster deliveries.

How To Introduce Your Instagram Page To Your Local Business Followers

Add your Instagram account to your business card so that people get to know your address on Instagram.

  • Share Your Page During Local Events.

If there is an event in your town, you can seize the opportunity and present your business to local people. You may want to become one of the sponsors of that local event.

  • Run Contests.

Contests are good for gaining new followers and more likes.

How to Get Local Followers on Instagram

There are several things you will want to do to find local followers for your Instagram account.

1. Utilize Appropriate Geotags

To get local followers, use geotags. Geotag both your Instagram posts and stories to reach local followers

You can geotag the following:

  • your city
  • the neighborhood your business is located in
  • your business
  • popular landmarks near your business

To add a geotag to a new post, click on “Add Location” and search the location you want to tag.

You can also add geotags to existing posts. To do so, look for a post that you’d like to add a location.

Click on the three “…” in the upper-righthand corner to open the photo editor.

A popup menu will appear with several different options. Click on “Edit” and then click on “Add Location…”

Once you’ve added your location in, you can save it so that your older posts are now attached to a location.

2. Employ The Right Local Hashtags

To find local hashtags, go to the search page and type in your city.  Make sure you click “Tags” along on top.

This will help you begin to find popular local hashtags. You can find more hashtags by clicking on one of the hashtags in the list.

Finding hashtags manually is time-consuming. Thus I recommend you use hashtag finder. The best hashtag finder is Tailwind.

Tailwind’s hashtag finder helps you identify which hashtags will be the easiest for your content to be found.

Tailwind’s hashtag finder sorts hashtags by their level of competitiveness so you can quickly and easily find the best hashtags that will get your content seen.

3. Interact With Your Instagram News Feed

Follow a good number of Instagram users in your area, be sure to like their photos. It’s important to continue to like their photos and comment.

Eventually, the local Instagram users you follow will follow you back and interact with you. However, this takes time.

4.  Develop Your Own Instagram Style

You must stand out on Instagram. It should be recognizable every time a user sees it.

5. Run Local Ads To Get Local Followers On Instagram

Running ads on search engines and social media can be an effective way to reach your audience and grow a local following.

The location you choose for your ads can also be very categorical. So search ads can be used to target local search terms related to your business.

6. Don’t Be Boring

You should mix up hashtags to tell part of your story. Use a sense of humor. Thus don’t be boring.

7. Include Your Location On Your Profile

Add your location to your profile to attract local followers. Your Instagram account must be a business account and hooked up to a Facebook business page.

8. Create a branded hashtag

A branded hashtag allows you to create a collection of your best content.

So when a potential follower finds you through another highly targeted tag, they’ll be more likely to follow after seeing your top posts.

You may also consider creating a branded tag for each of your Instagram marketing campaigns.

9. Use industry-specific hashtags

Primarily using terms not specific to your industry would result in gaining very few followers.

You must use hashtags in your posts that your target audience would be browsing specifically.

The more specific you are, the more interested the people you attract and the higher the chances they’ll become followers.

10. Search For Nearby Locations

Search for nearby locations. You can search them via hashtags or go to a location and take a picture to find more.

11. Add Location to Your Post

Add your post in the local post or Explore by adding a specific location.

Instagram presents local posts to users with two parts together: hot posts and recent posts, your post could get a nice position even if your post does not have many likes or comments.

Of course, your content needs to be attractive enough to let them follow you and like your post. But you still have other 3 things to do before that.
